IAMAW Local Lodge 37 was chartered on July 11, 1899, and dissolved in the late 1980s. Its records relate to the day-to-day activities of a major New Orleans union and its relationship to the International headquarters, and include constitutions, bylaws, minutes, correspondence, agreement reports, financial records, membership cards and artifacts.

Abstract:

The Records, 1893-1971, of Lodge No. 1, the founding lodge of the International Association of Machinists, are composed principally of minutes that describe the problems faced by a railroad lodge as automobiles, busses, trucks and airplanes made profound changes in the transportation industry. Financial documents, that record the Lodge's varying economic situation through seven decades, constitute the bulk of the remaining records.

The community of Oak Ridge was developed in 1942 and managed by the Army of the United States to facilitate production of the Atomic bomb for the Manhattan Project during World War II. R. H. Baucom (1897-1967) was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 776 (Fort Worth, Tex.), who worked at the Convair aircraft plant in Fort Worth. His IAM collection includes Local Lodge 776 membership dues books and his retirement card (1946-1962), as well as a brief reminiscence written by his daughter, Tommie Baucom-Richardson.
