Historical Note
Originally founded in Atlanta in 1888 as a trade union for railroad machinists, today the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents workers in a large and diverse number of fields. Over the course of the 20th century the machinists moved from representing railroad workers to machinists and others working for airlines and the aerospace industry.
The mission of the Strategic Resources Group is to help position the IAM for growth and increase the union’s capabilities of improving work-life and the standard of living for IAM members well into the next century. The Group provides support to IAMAW officers, field representatives and organizers through research, analysis, and strategic advice on a wide variety of topics.
