Scope and Content of the Records
The records, 1892-1972, of Local Lodge 89, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, includes minutes, financial records, correspondence, rolls and dues lists, administrative records of the Ladies Auxiliary, railroad maintenance booklets, and other general administrative records and items. Local Lodge 89 had a number of railroad machinists in its membership, and was aided in its efforts by its Ladies Auxiliary. The local was aided by its Ladies Auxiliary, made up of female relatives of the machinists in Local 89.

Historical Note
Originally founded in Atlanta in 1888 as a trade union for railroad machinists, today the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents workers in a large and diverse number of fields. Over the course of the 20th century the machinists moved from representing railroad workers to machinists and others working for airlines and the aerospace industry.
International Association of Machinists Local Lodge 89 existed in Cheyenne, Wyoming during the late 19th and into the twentieth century.
