Labor union locals

The collection consists of correspondence, office memoranda and printed material maintained by the regional director’s office in Atlanta, Georgia.

Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union, Local 1836 (Charleston, SC) records, 1968-1976, consist of correspondence, minutes, reports and financial files.

The Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America, Local 525 (Asheville, N.C.) Records, 1957-1975, consist of correspondence, financial reports, minutes, newspaper clippings, National Labor Relations Board case material, and contracts illuminating the activities of Local 525 in its dealings with numerous companies, primarily in North Carolina.

American Federation of Government Employees, Local 1145 represents employees at the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta. The records, circa 1930s-1970s, primarily consist of printed material and the files of the local's longtime president, Ralph D. Stancil (1905-1978).

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 4 (Atlanta Ga.) represented the interests of the employees of the city of Atlanta until the local was absorbed by the conglomerated Local 1644.

Local 32 of the United Federation of Postal Clerks merged into the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO, Atlanta, Georgia in 1971. The records consist primarily of the administrative and office files of General President Wallace Baldwin, Jr., including correspondence, reports, minutes, constitutions and by-laws, contract negotiations, training materials, arbitration and grievances, newspaper clips, administrative files, and other printed materials.

Atlanta Fire Fighters Union, Independent was formed in 1966 by fire fighters disaffiliating from Local 134 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) because of the IAFF's refusal to support them in a strike against the Atlanta Fire Department. Its records, 1966, contain signed resignation forms, correspondence, minutes, grievance and arbitration case material, legal documents, membership data, newspaper clippings, and some printed items.

The Atlanta Labor Council was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Atlanta Federation of Trades, AFL, and the Atlanta Industrial Union Council, CIO. Its records are composed of proceedings, constitutions, contracts, convention materials, periodicals, pamphlets, and printed material of the Atlanta Labor Council and affiliated organizations, 1965-1990 (bulk 1967-1980).

The records of Atlanta Printing Specialties and Paper Products Union, Local 527 (1954-1972), consist of correspondence, minutes, financial records, contract negotiation files, contracts, constitutions and other printed materials.

The collection consists of labor relation files of the various companies that have operated Atlanta's public transit system.

The records, 1895-1939; 1948-1970, of the Atlanta Typographical Union, Local 48, consist of correspondence, minutes, financial documents, and printed material. They illuminate in detail the activities of the local -- membership campaigns, internal judicial and business matters, dealings with the Atlanta Typothetae and individual employers, and strikes and lockouts.

The Atlanta Typographical Union, Local 48 was a branch of the International Typographical Union that represented printers and typographers throughout the Atlanta area. The Atlanta Typographical Union records (circa 1920s-2000s) consists of contracts, bylaws, correspondence, membership data, union organization forms, news clippings, strike organization, negotiations, and arbitration and grievance files.

The Barbers, Beauticians, and Allied Industries International Association, Local 630 (Augusta, Ga.) was chartered in 1912, and was affiliated with the Journeyman, Barbers, Hairdressers, Cosmetologists and Proprietors International Union (BHCIU). The Records, 1942-1973 (bulk 1952-1972), provide information about the local's activities during the terms of office of its last two secretaries, F. J. Pritchard and Roger Rodgers.

The collection consists of records of Local 1 (Asheville, N.C.) of the Bricklayers, Masons, and Plasterers International Union, and its predecessor the Bricklayers' and Masons' International Union of America, from 1903-1926. The collection includes dues ledgers (1903-1906; 1921-1923) providing information about members and the amount of dues income, minutes (1903-1913) providing insight into the local's day-to-day activities, roll book (1905-1922), and membership applications (1923-1926).
