Barbers, Beauticians, and Allied Industries International Association, Local 630 (Augusta, Ga.) records
Scope and Content of the Records
The Records, 1942-1973 (bulk 1952-1972), of the Barbers, Beauticians, and Allied Industries International Association, Local 630 (Augusta, Ga.), provide information about the local's activities during the terms of office of its last two secretaries, F. J. Pritchard and Roger Rodgers. The records include much correspondence, mostly with Journeyman, Barbers, Hairdressers, Cosmetologists and Proprietors International Union (BHCIU) headquarters in Indianapolis, the Georgia State AFL-CIO, the Georgia Association of Barbers, individual members and other unions. Financial records, dating primarily after 1966, membership data, and printed items complete the records. Much of the correspondence relates to a 1970 charge against the BHCIU general Secretary of mismanagement of the union's pension fund. Another principal subject of the correspondence, particularly after 1970, is Local 630's problems maintaining a minimal level of participation, as its members were scattered over a wide geographical area, meetings grew infrequent, and many members were dropped for nonpayment of dues.
