International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers

International Association of Machinists, Local Lodge 6 (Galveston, Texas), was founded in the late 1880s and merged with Local Lodge 1786 in July 2005. The lodge represented workers in a variety of industries in and around Galveston. Its records, 1929-1962, include ledgers, dues books, and artifacts.

IAMAW Local Lodge 37 was chartered on July 11, 1899, and dissolved in the late 1980s. Its records relate to the day-to-day activities of a major New Orleans union and its relationship to the International headquarters, and include constitutions, bylaws, minutes, correspondence, agreement reports, financial records, membership cards and artifacts.

Erie machinists initially were chartered as an American Federation of Labor affiliate, then reorganized as National Association of Machinists' Local Lodge 101 (both in 1890). The local was re-chartered in August 1896, then re-organized in May 1901. The Records, 1896-1916, of Lodge 101 are composed principally of minutes and dues records.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) Local Lodge 174 (Washington, D.C.), "Columbia Lodge," is one of the oldest Machinists' lodges in North America. IAMAW Local Lodge 174 (Washington, D.C.) records consists of photographs, pins, financial ledgers and documents from the early portion of the lodge's history.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local Lodge 261 (Mobile, Ala.) contracts collection, 1948-1949, 1967-1998, primarily consists of printed contracts and includes a draft contract with associated correspondence, an agreement, and a printed report. The Local Lodge represented workers employed by Mobile Pulley and Machine Works in Mobile, Alabama.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local Lodge 598 (South Charleston, W.V.) collection, 1975, consistes of a photocopy of a published lodge history. The Local Lodge was established in 1965 to represent workers at a Union Carbide plant.

Eleven International Association of Machinists contracts, 1951-1990, establishing working conditions between several International Association of Machinists lodges and Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Marietta, Georgia.

International Association of Machinists, Local Lodge 774 (Wichita, Kan.) represented employees of the Cessna Aircraft Company. Its records, 1961, 1973, 1980, undated, consist of a folder of news clippings, contracts, one newsletter, and other publications.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Office of the International President Records consist of materials from the office onf IAMAW International President Tom Buffenbarger, 1979-2004.

Georgia State University Library, Special Collections Department holds over 70 oral history interviews with retirees, members, and leaders of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Most of the interviews have been conducted by IAMAW Grand Lodge personel or Southern Labor Archives Staff. Many of the interviews have been transcribed.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Photograph Collection largely consists of black and white 8" x 10" photographs which were used in its publications, the Machinists Monthly Journal and later, the Machinist.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has represented the interests of machinists, engineers, and aerospace workers since the late 19th century. Included within this collection from the IAM's central office are letters to the executive board, union decisions, correspondence, video cassettes, photography, and film reels, circa 1930s-1990s.

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) souvenir program, 28 June 1969, is from the banquet held to honor Roy Siemiller and Matthew DeMore upon the end of their terms as IAMAW president and general secretary-treasurer, respectively.
