Herb Green papers

Abstract:

Herb Green began his career in the labor movement shortly after being employed in the General Motors plant in Doraville, Georgia, in 1948, by serving on the union's collective bargaining committee. His Papers, 1959-1981, include thirty photographs of Green (also pictured are Andrew Young, Lane Kirkland, Sen. Walter Mondale, and Sen. Jim Sasser), and newspaper articles about him.

Homer Lord (1914-2005) was a member of the American Federation of Hosiery Workers (AFHW) who lived in Athens, Georgia. AFHW organized the workers at Rodgers Mill (a subsidiary of Wayne Knitting Mills) in Athens. Collection includes an agreement and copies of newspaper articles, 1944, 1953-1955 (material in photocopied form).

Abstract: Howard "Ty" Cobb joined PATCO, the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization, in 1975 while working as a GS14 Air Traffic Controller at the Atlanta Tower at Hartsfield Airport. International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the US and Canada members are involved with every phase of production in all aspects of the entertainment industry. IATSE, founded in 1893, has been in the Atlanta area since 1896. Local 225 was formed in 1911 and merged with Local 927 in 1996. Local 225 was a Moving Picture Machine Operators (MPMO) local, whose members operated projectors throughout the Atlanta area.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Artifact collection comprises a wide variety of artifacts, including charters, photographs, paintings, posters, banners, certificates, and tool kits, 1888-circa 2000. The items were created or received by IAMAW's officers, headquarters, and local lodges. The collection includes the contents of the "Time Capsule of 1955" placed in the cornerstone of the union's then headquarters.
