Scope and Contents of the Collection

Herb Mabry Tribute album collection, circa 2000, consists of photographs taken during an event to honor the former president of the Georgia AFL-CIO. Individuals depicted include Herb Mabry; U.S. Representative John Lewis; Governor Roy Barnes and other Georgia politicians; labor leaders such as Mabry's successor as Georgia AFL-CIO president, Richard Ray; and the Mabry family.

Historical Note

Herbert Hoover (Herb) Mabry (1929-2011) joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 225 (Atlanta, Ga.) in 1950 and was elected its president in 1969. He served as secretary of the Georgia State AFL-CIO, 1970-1972, and as president, 1972-1999. Mabry was an officer or board member of numerous other labor organizations and charities, and was appointed to several state agencies.
