Scope and Contents of the Series In 1977, the IAMAW established a package sponsorship association with the USAC National Championship Series for the Indianapolis "500" and the Machinists Union 150-mile Championship Event at the Trenton International Speedway. Winpisinger would later serve as IAM president from 1977 until 1989.
