Scope and Content of the Records
The collection consists of correspondence between employers and Local No. 2, administrative files and various records, financial records and statements (dues check off, monthly statements), artifacts (dues books, lapsed membership records, honorary withdrawal requests), speeches and speech materials, newspaper clippings (some for Senator T. Allgood, District 22), strike information, and various subject files. Files were mostly kept in original order, with only a few being changed to fit within a series. Three folders were moved to an oversize box.
IAMAW, Local Lodge 2, was involved in organizing other locals in the area. It also had members in various local industries and companies, including Coca-Cola Bottlers, Inc., Winder Transportation, and Atlanta Wire Works.

Historical Note
Originally founded in Atlanta in 1888 as a trade union for railroad machinists, today the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents workers in a large and diverse number of fields. Over the course of the 20th century the machinists moved from representing railroad workers to machinists and others working for airlines and the aerospace industry.
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local Lodge 2, is located in Atlanta, GA and is a part of District Lodge 42. The building the local was in experienced a fire in 1965, destroying the pre-1964 ledgers housed there and possibly other records.
