Scope and Contents of the Papers
The Jeanne Scher papers, 1974-2009, consist of publications, news clippings, pamphlets, correspondence, photographs and other materials relating to aging and the role and challenges of older women in American society. The majority of the papers are from the Metro Atlanta Older Women's League, which Scher served as president.

Biography of Jeanne Scher
Jeanne Scher (1919-2010) was a nursery school teacher, disability therapist, mother, and social justice activist. She was founder/executive director of the Atlanta chapter of the Older Women's League. She oversaw DeKalb's Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was a senior employment specialist for the Atlanta Regional Commission's aging division. Born in New Jersey, the youngest of six children, she lived in New York, Connecticut, and Florida before settling in Atlanta in 1978. She served as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging in 1995 and was named one of Atlanta Magazine's 20 women who had a positive impact on people's lives in 1997.
