History of Georgia Women's History Month Committee
The Georgia Commission on Women was established by the state legislature and then-governor Zell Miller in 1992. The first Georgia Women's History Month Committee of the commission was formed the following year. Annually, the committee honored women and groups that advanced women in a particular field of activity. Each March, to coincide with Women's History Month, a reception paid tribute to women who made significant contributions to Georgia that related to the year's theme. The Georgia Women's History Month Committee was a volunteer group that organized and secured sponsorship for the annual event.
