Scope and Content of the Records
This collection includes materials that reflect the development of Georgia State University as well as the various departments and buildings within the university, from 1925 through the 1990s.
Because of the President's position as a medium of communication between the Board of Regents and the rest of the university, the records in this group provide material on almost every aspect of university life. This collection includes records from student and faculty organizations, correspondence with faculty, staff and students, and various publications. The records also reflect the impact of local, state and national events and movements on the university community, such as World War II, the Cold War, desegregation at the university, and the 1996 Olympics.

Historical Note
The Office of the President has direct oversight of Intercollegiate Athletics and the University Auditing and Advisory Services. It also has oversight of many other campus offices through the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The President of the University serves as its chief administrative officer at the pleasure of the Office Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

These collections are arranged together, first, at the series level, by president, secondly, at the subseries level by type of records (general files, regents files and inaugural greetings (where they exist)), and finally, at the sub-subseries level by accession number. In some instances the regents files are subsumed within the general office files.

Transferred by the Office of the President.
Processing Information
Finding aid created by Morna Gerrard, 2003. While the Sparks collection has been rearranged and rehoused, the remaining collections are in their original order as received. Any rehousing was done at the folder level, when files were found to be unwieldy or falling apart. A small amount of preservation photocopying was undertakes, and disintegrating fasteners have been removed or replaced.
