Scope and Content of the Records
The bulk of the records, 1948-2005, of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local Lodge 2063, are grievance and arbitration files. These files include grievance forms, grievance resolutions, disciplinary action forms, arbitration hearing transcriptions, written arbitration decisions, personal notes, and other files related to the grievance and arbitration procedures. Other types of files included in the records of Local Lodge 2063 are contract negotiation files, final contracts, printed materials, constitutions and bylaws, correspondence, internal communications, and a few artifacts.

History of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Local Lodge 2063
Early in 1948, employees at the Galesburg, Illinois Midwest Manufacturing plant began the process of forming a union and becoming certified under the Labor Relations Management Act of 1947. Later that year, the union was certified as Federal Labor Union Number 22278, American Federation of Labor. The union and Midwest Manufacturing agreed on their first contract for 1954-1955 and agreed to a second contract for 1955-1956. In 1956, Federal Labor Union Number 22278 became Midwest Lodge 2063, International Association of Machinists. The IAM successfully bargained for the next contract and continuously represented the workers at the Galesburg plant until it closed in 2005, successfully negotiating through ownership changes and reorganizations.

Employees at the Galesburg, Illinois Midwest Manufacturing plant organized as an American Federation of Labor affiliate in 1948. In 1956, the union became Midwest Lodge 2063, International Association of Machinists, and represented the workers at the Galesburg plant until it closed in 2005. The bulk of the records of Local Lodge 2063, 1948-2005, are grievance and arbitration files, as well as contract negotiation files, final contracts, printed materials, constitutions and bylaws, correspondence, internal communications, and a few artifacts.
