Scope and Content of the Records
The collection consists of office files, ledgers, publications, and some separated material. The office files are made up of correspondence, financial records, apprenticeship files, trial records, and other papers relating to the day-to-day running of the local. Publications include union journals (AFL-CIO, IBPAT, etc.) and a series of Labor Day Trades directories for Savannah, GA. Ledgers, ranging in dates from 1916 to the 1970s, include initiation fees, dues, and minutes. Also included are the dues and minute books from "colored" Local 1463 which joined Local 30 in the 1960s. Oversize files include a few day books, an embossing stamp, and certificates. Photos are of union members.

Historical Note
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades was known as the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades until 1999. The I.U.P.A.T began in 1887 as the Brotherhood of Painters and Decorators of America. The union is affiliated with the American Federation of Labor- Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), currently has 140,000+ members, and represents a wide range of trades. Painters Local 30 was located in Savannah, Georgia.
