Historical Note

The United Machinists and Mechanical Engineers of America was founded in 1888. In 1889, the name was changed to National Association of Machinists. Two years later, it became known as the International Association of Machinists and in 1965, this was changed to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

IAM Locals 842 and 918, two other Macon lodges merged into Local Lodge 8 to represent all the Machinists in Macon, Georgia.

Abstract:

International Association of Machinists, Lodge 8 (Macon, Georgia) Records, 1901-1978, consist of bound ledgers recording expenses, receipt of union dues, and other income. Also included are financial ledgers from two other Macon IAM lodges (locals 842 and 918) that merged into Lodge 8.

Arrangement

The records are arranged into three series:

  1. Series I: International Association of Machinists, Lodge 8 records, 1901-1978
  2. Series II: International Association of Machinists, Lodge 842 records, 1914-1916
  3. Series III: International Association of Machinists, Lodge 918 records, 1923-1969
