Historical Note on the Communications Workers of America
The Communications Workers of America began in 1939 as a group of unaffiliated unions in the telephone industry organized under the name of the National Federation of Telephone Workers. In 1947, the group changed its name to the Communications Workers of America (CWA). The CWA affiliated with the CIO and merged with the Telephone Workers Organizing Committee in 1949. Local 3108 is headquartered in Orlando, Florida.
