Historical Note
Originally formed in 1890 as an affiliate of the American Federation of Labor, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) took its present name in 1899. Representing workers in such fields as utilities, communications, construction, and transportation, the IBEW is one of the largest unions in the world. Headquartered in the Atlanta area, Local 84 represents employees of Georgia Power in various locations.
