History Note about the Textile Workers Union of America

Founded as a Congress of Industrial Organizations Affiliate in 1939, the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA) merged with the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America in 1976 to form the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. Subsequent mergers led to the union UNITE HERE. TWUA Local 185 is a local branch established in the 1940s and operating out of Dalton, Georgia.

This collection consists of union documentation regarding the foundation and management of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union Local 185 and its relationship with the Crown Cotton Mill, both of Dalton, Georgia. The collection concerns the operation and management ACTWUA Local 185 from its establishment in the 1940s through the 1960s.
