Historical Note

Tom Ducy joined the International Association of Machinists (IAM) in St. Louis in 1950, and eventually served as its second-highest ranking officer. He was a steward and organizer for the IAM in Colorado, and was an administrator in its Great Lakes and Midwest Territories. A longtime member of IAM's Executive Council, he was elected General Secretary-Treasurer in 1987 and served until 1993. The IAM dates to 1888. One of the first locals in Colorado, National Association of Machinists (precursor to the IAM) lodge 47 (Commerce City, Colo.), first met in 1889 and was chartered in 1890. Once known as Pioneer Lodge 47, the local is now known as Rocky Mountain Lodge 47.
