Airline Tickets, 1970
Scope and Content of the Subseries
Subseries 3: Financial Records - SERO, 1954-1975 is alphabetically arranged by record type such as dues, expenses, organizing expenses, reports from local unions, taxes, and tickets (airline).
Subseries 3: Financial Records - SERO, 1954-1975, the financial records in Oversize Materials, and the entire collection reflect the requirement for financial accountability within the ILGWU. Galenson states that from 1935 to 1941, the "ILGWU published... the most detailed financial statements of any union in the United States" (p. 311) and this same attention to fiscal detail is evident in these SERO records. Perhaps the "flagrant mismanagement of strike funds" in 1928, noted by Tedesco (p. 121), and placing the union over $800,000 in debt, made an early and indelible impression on later union staff.
