SCNA Committees: Joint Meeting of Bylaws and Structure Study Committees, 1970-1971; 1976
Scope and Content of the Subseries
Becky S. Jackson was SCNA's Executive Director 1973-1979, and this subseries shows SCNA assuming its modern organizational form. Records created during her tenure reflect the early meetings of the House of Delegates, which first met in November 1972, and the Councils (later known as Cabinets, Commissions); SCNA's entry into approval of continuing education for nurses, following ANA's establishment of a certification program for nurses in 1973; de-emphasis of organizing by the Economic and General Welfare Program; and, again following ANA, a growing engagement with social and political issues with the addition of a Platform Committee.
Jackson's files arrived at the Southern Labor Archives split between two accessions and disordered. During processing, they were ordered in a hierarchy similar to that of Subseries C. Note that, starting in 1977, the office established a separate file for executive correspondence.
