Scope and Contents of the Subseries

Subseries D consists of reference files and correspondence, reflecting Dr. Fowlkes' professional engagement in feminist and gender issues. Included are bibliographies, legislative updates, newsclippings, publicity materials, notes, and correspondence on topics such as abortion and reproductive rights, sexual harassment, and the Equal Rights Amendment in Georgia. A significant section of this subseries contains correspondence with several individuals, including publishers (Allen and Unwin); members of Congress, notably Herman Talmadge; individuals at the University of Michigan regarding a position in Women's Studies; colleagues and students; and others involved in professional associations and grants.

Note: Four of Dr. Fowlkes' business cards from Georgia State University, and twenty-six buttons in support of women's issues and various political campaigns, have been moved to Series VI.
