Miscellaneous Correspondence

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 6

Scope and Content of the Papers

From the Collection:

The papers described here consist of correspondence between Leonora Gidlund and the educational institutions, archives, historical societies, book dealers, radio stations and private collectors that she contacted in her search for primary research materials relating to Mercer's life and his activities as one of America's prominent songwriters. Included are a number of copies of original materials (including draft lyrics and Mercer correspondence) that were provided by some of the respondents. These materials have been retained with the correspondence of the holding institution. Mailing lists that were used during the study are filed first; the remaining correspondence is filed alphabetically by name of institution or correspondent. The numbers that appear on the mailing list and some of the correspondence refer to the index numbers of the addressees as listed in Resources of American Music History.
