Scope and Content of the Papers

Included are a number of copies of original materials (including draft lyrics and Mercer correspondence) that were provided by some of the respondents. These materials have been retained with the correspondence of the holding institution. Mailing lists that were used during the study are filed first; the remaining correspondence is filed alphabetically by name of institution or correspondent. The numbers that appear on the mailing list and some of the correspondence refer to the index numbers of the addressees as listed in Resources of American Music History.
