Labor union locals

Eight minute books, 1950-1967, recount the weekly meetings of Atlanta's Local 8 of the Bricklayers and Masons Union. Committee reports, bills paid, inter-union disputes, amendments, and resolutions are recorded as are elections and membership information. Quarterly audits, 1950-1955, constitutions, agreements, and working rules complete the records.

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Simpson Division 210, located in Macon, Georgia, received its charter in 1883. The local's records, 1884-1918, 1949, consist primarily of correspondence, financial documents, minutes and committee reports.

The records of the Brotherhood of Painters, Decorators and Paperhangers of America, Local 193, 1905-1972 contain four minute books (1905-1911, 1927-1932, 1937-1940, and 1952-1957) that describe primarily routine internal union business, especially finances, meetings, and legal affairs.

The Records of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Local 536, 1916-1924, consist of membership applications, correspondence, reports, and printed materials related to the work and labor issues of the Paducah, Kentucky, lodge.

Communication Workers of America, Local 3204 (Atlanta, Ga.) represents employees of Southern Bell in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Its office records consist mainly of correspondence (1966-1971), which concerns grievances, conventions, and agreements, and minutes, news releases and reports.

The Communications Workers of America, Local 3250 (Atlanta, Ga) records, 1949-1983, consist of office files, periodicals, and grievances.

The Communications Workers of America, Local 3108 (1965-1972), collection contains minutes, newspaper clippings, and printed material regarding the politics, legislation, strikes, and history of dues and wages of the Local 2108.

The Communications Workers of America, Local 3250 (Atlanta, Ga.) Records, 1935-1945, contain correspondence, minutes, memos, and printed items highlighting the relationship between the Branch 3101 of the Federation of Long Lines Telephone Workers (a predecessor of Local 3250) and the American Telephone and Telegraph Company.

The David Herman Papers, 1954-1967, contains scrapbook materials, newspaper clippings, telegrams, and printed materials relating to his presidency of the Hotel Employee's and Bartenders International Union, Local 6 (New York, NY); his work as an organizer of the Hotel Employees' Union, Local 255 (Miami, FL); the hotel employees' strike, 1955-1959, and his campaign for Miami City Council in 1967.

The David Williams collection contains correspondence and minutes between the Georgia Railway and Power Company and a committee representing the company's employees as well as agreements between the company and the Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees of America, Local 732 and other documents including newspaper clippings, memoranda, bulletins and President Wilson's proclamation creating the National War Labor Board.

Davy Paul Laborde, Sr. (1917-1991) was a fifty-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 1846, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The papers include membership cards, dues books, photographs, newspaper articles, centennial anniversary mementos, an assortment of books on labor unions, and artifacts.

Edmund Torbush was a member of the Atlanta Typographical Union (International Typographical Union, Local 48) who worked for Atlanta Newspapers, Inc. His papers include correspondence, minutes, news clippings, printed materials, pamphlets, photographs pertaining to the International Typographical Union, the Atlanta Typographical Union, and its Women's Auxiliary. The papers also contains artifacts used in the typesetting profession.

The Edwin D. Harrison Collection contains materials regarding his role as mediator between the City of Atlanta and the Atlanta Firefighters Union in the mid-1960s.

The records of the Glass Bottle Blowers Association of the United States and Canada (GBBA), Local 101 (East Point, Ga.), 1953-1992, largely reflect the local's relationship with its principal employer, the Owens-Illinois Company plant in East Point. Contains eight series: Administrative, Contracts, Correspondence, Financial documents, Grievances, Legal documents, Minutes, and Subject files.
