E. L. Abercrombie (1908-1989) served as executive secretary of Local 218 of the Laundry, Dry Cleaning and Dye House Workers International and was involved with charitable, political, and humanitarian organizations throughout his career. This collection includes numerous awards, plaques, and commendations given to Abercrombie.

Florida AFL-CIO was formed in 1958 with the merging of the Florida American Federation of Labor and the Florida Congress of Industrial Organizations. The collection, 1965-1968, consists of correspondence, minutes, financial documents and printed materials. Correspondence illustrates such primary concerns as labor's role in education; state and national legislation; opposition to the Taft-Hartley Act and the Landrum-Griffin Bill, and its support of Congressman Claude Pepper.

The records, 1954-1971, of the Florida State AFL-CIO contain financial statements and proceedings of the Florida State AFL-CIO, proceedings of conventions of other state labor bodies, pamphlets pertaining to labor subjects, and correspondence, minutes, and reports of the Florida State Constitution Revision Commission.

The Georgia State AFL-CIO was created in 1957 by the merger of the Georgia State Industrial Union Council (CIO) and the Georgia Federation of Labor (AFL). The bulk of the records of the Georgia State AFL-CIO (1980s-1990s) consist of minutes, correspondence, campaign and political materials, convention materials, photographs, newsletters, VHS and cassette tapes.

The Records, 1956-1971, of the Georgia State Council of Machinists consist of correspondence, minutes, financial documents, and printed material, the bulk being correspondence and minutes.

The Georgia State Employees Union, Service Employees International Union Local 1985 records consist of correspondence, bylaws, constitutions, organizing materials, newsletters, pamphlets, and political materials. Local 1985, is the Atlanta Local of the Service Employees International Union.

The collection consists of papers of Henry W. Chandler, secretary, Georgia Federation of Labor and president, Atlanta Federation of Trades, from 1918-1973. Includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, and printed materials relating to Chandler's work for those and other organizations.

Manuals, correspondence, printed material, and notes describe political, vocational, and labor education in the Southern and Mid-Western states, Panama and Puerto Rico, 1947-1971.

International Union of Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers, Local 191 of Rome, Georgia, originated the significant 1969 strike against GE that led to an eventual federal lawsuit. Its records, 1953-1997, include documentation covering the daily operations, communications, and organization of the union.

The collection contains materials related to attorney and union organizer Joseph Jacobs's work in the labor and civic community. Specifically, the papers cover his activities in the fields of labor, the Workmen's Circle (Arbeiter Ring), the Georgia Humanities Council and the Georgia Democratic Party.

Mark Show papers, 2008-2017, reflect his role as financial secretary in International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), Local 322 (Charlotte, N.C.), and his participation in IATSE District 7 and the Southern Piedmont Labor Council of the North Carolina State AFL-CIO. The papers financial records, contracts, training materials, and reports, notes, and agendas state, district, and international conventions.

The North Carolina State Federation of Labor was organized in 1907 and held annual conventions until 1957. The North Carolina State AFL-CIO was then organized in 1958. The collection consists of administrative files, 1945, 1949-1981, and also includes material regarding the North Carolina gubernatorial campaign of Wilbur Hobby, president of the North Carolina State AFL-CIO.

South Carolina AFL-CIO records, 1963, 1976-2008, document the president and executive board of the organization and the coordinators of two job programs in the state, the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) Labor Coordinator, and the Industry Work Experience Program (IWEP) Coordinator.

The Labor Periodicals Collection is a collection of printed journals, newspapers, newsletters and other published materials separated from Southern Labor Archives organizational collections or acquired through subscription. Stanton E. Smith (born 1905) was a labor leader in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served as President of the Tennessee Federation of Labor and of the Tennessee State Labor Council. Smith's papers, 1938-1973, are comprised primarily of correspondence and other documents relating to his duties in those organizations, the Chattanooga Central Labor Union, and the Southern Labor School. The papers also include photographs and printed material.
