Abstract: Andrew P. McElroy, Sr. (1863-1921) immigrated to America from Scotland in 1882. A skilled stonecutter, he settled in Atlanta where he was in charge of all stonework in the building of the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary from 1903 to 1917. During and prior to this time, he was very active in union work both locally and nationally. The Atlanta Labor Council was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Atlanta Federation of Trades, AFL, and the Atlanta Industrial Union Council, CIO. Its records are composed of proceedings, constitutions, contracts, convention materials, periodicals, pamphlets, and printed material of the Atlanta Labor Council and affiliated organizations, 1965-1990 (bulk 1967-1980).
