Original Description

The George E. Manners Collection consists of administrative files, committee reports, and department records produced bu the office of the Dean of Business Administration. The scope of the collection spans from 1948 to 1975 with the bulk of the material dating from 1965 to 1973. During this period of Dr. Manners' leadership, the Business School continued to expand with the addition of programs in Hospital Administration, Hotel Management, Decision Sciences (on the Masters level), and the completion of the Business School Building. The collection documents the Business School's quest for excellence and some files, i.e. the Gourmon Report, illustrate the concern the college placed in improving its national image. The manuscripts are arramged in five series which, to a great extent, reflect the files' original order. A few of the papers, notably Series I, had become disordered and these were reiled alphabetically using the original subject titles. The Administrative Files are comprised of Series I, Subjects, and Series II, Faculty Corespondence. Series III contains the records of numberous committees with which Dr. Manners was associated. Committees of note include Building Planning, Computers, and the Graduate Council. The largest proportion of the collections consists of Series IV which pertains to departmental records that include Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Insurance, Management, Marketing, and Real Estate, among others. These records mostly contain information n faculty prospects, budget amendments, and travel requests. The last series, Alphabetic Files, contain miscellaneous records which pertain to subjects, i.e. "Babson College" and "Tuition", students, or individuals outside the University. If a subject or individual is not found in the rest of the inventory, it would be advisable to check this series. The papers within each series are aphabetically arranged, and the documents of each folder are organized in reverse chronological order. Photographs and University related printed materials have been removed from the collection and filed in the Nonprint Collection and the GSU Print Collection respectfully [sic]. The full holdings of the George Manners Collection are listed in the index which follows this statement.
