Biographical Note

William M. Suttles (1920-2003) was an alumnus of the institution that would later become Georgia State University (GSU). After World War II service and further training at Yale University, he returned to GSU and taught in and chaired the Speech Department. He later served as dean of students and, for 19 years, as executive vice president and provost. Suttles was interim president of GSU for 2 years prior his retirement in 1989. Honored with many awards for his teaching and community service, Dr. Suttles was the pastor of Haralson Baptist Church in Coweta County for 49 years.
