Biographical / Historical

Webb B. Garrison (1919-2000) was born in Georgia. He was educated at Emory University, graduating with degrees in philosophy and divinity. He served twenty-eight years as a pastor in the United Methodist Church. He also served as assistant dean of Candler School of Theology of Emory University, a lecturer at Vanderbilt University and Scarritt College, and president of McKendree College. Garrison was the author of twenty-eight books, and a frequent contributor to newspapers published in Georgia as well as more than one hundred nationally circulated magazines. Oglethorpe’s Folly: The Birth of Georgia was published in 1982.
