The Records, 1963-1972, of the Civil Rights Department of the AFL-CIO Southern Region consist primarily of printed material and correspondence of private groups, government commissions, and committees from organized labor, working in the various fields of civil rights activity--equal and open housing, school desegregation, human relations, and fair and equal employment opportunities.

Scope and Contents

Consists of the minutes of the September 7, 1968 meeting of the Mississippi AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education (COPE). The participants discuss whether or not to promote the presidential campaign of Hubert Humphrey, given the extreme popularity of George Wallace with Mississippi voters. Ultimately the participants vote to support Humphrey, and reaffirm the importance of civil rights to organized labor in Mississippi.
