Historical Note

The Tobacco Workers International Union, founded in 1895, fought to end the use of child labor in the tobacco industry, and to improve working conditions. In 1978 the TWIU merged into the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers' International Union.
