Historical Note about the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union
Founded in 1900, the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) was one of the largest and most important unions during the height of the American labor movement. In 1995, the ILGWU merged with Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union to form the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE), which after a subsequent merger became UNITE HERE.
