Biography of Albert W. Gossett

Albert W. Gossett was born in 1901 in Atlanta, Georgia; served in the military in France during World War I; received his journeyman's bricklayer card in 1923; was elected secretary of Bricklayer's Local 8 in Atlanta in 1924; served as a vice-president of the Atlanta Federation of Trades from 1933 to 1939; served as President of the Atlanta Federation of Trades from 1940 to 1945; during World War II served on the Selective Service Appeal Board, the War Manpower Commission, and the War Labor Board; served eleven years on the board of Atlanta's Department of Public Welfare, the second half of those years as Chairman; after World War II was appointed a General Representative of the Retail Clerks International Union.
