Scope and Content of the Papers

Gary M. Fink Papers, the bulk of which date circa 1972-1998, contain reference files related to the American Labor movement, its leaders and history, including the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill strike. They include notes and prinited material. One set of files relates to the 1991 Southern Labor Studies Conference organized by Fink and his colleague Merl E. Reed and held at Georgia State University, and includes correspondence.

Biographical Note

Gary M. Fink (1936-2008) was a historian on the faculty at Georgia State University (GSU), where he was instumental in the development and use of the Southern Labor Archives. He chaired GSU's Department of History, 1984-1991. His works include volumes on the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill strike of 1914-15, Jimmy Carter's gubernatorial career, and edited volumes on American labor history and labor leaders.

Dr. Fink donated his papers to the Georgia State University Archives in June 1998 (G1998-11A). The Archives retained material related to his teaching and administrative career, transferring the files related to his Labor history research to the Southern Labor Archives.
