Scope and Contents of the Collection

James Hebert PATCO Collection, 1968-1986, consists of newspaper clippings, correspondence, periodicals, and legal materials relating to Hebert's career as an air traffic controller and member of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO). Of particular note are files of newspaper clippings regarding the PATCO strike and the plight of the controllers from the upper midwest, which include articles from Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, and the Dakotas.

Biography of Jim Hebert

Jim Hebert was an air traffic controller in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1981, along with his co-workers, he went on strike for better pay and working conditions. He was terminated in the mass firing of striking air traffic controllers by the Reagan Administration in 1981, which also led to the dissolution of PATCO.
