Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Comic Books collection contains approximately 2,500 comic books from publishers such as DC Comics, Marvel, Charlton, Archie Enterprise, various imprints, and independent publishers. The collection encompasses many genres, including superhero and romance. They date from 1944 to 2022 with the majority from the 1970s to 1990s.

Abstract

The Comic Books collection primarily contains comic books from a variety of genres, such as Superheroes, Romance, and others. It includes comic books from several publishers such as DC Comics, Marvel, Charlton, Archie Enterprise, as well as many imprint and independent publishers. They date from 1944 to 2022 with the majority from the 1970s to 1990s.

Arrangement Note

Arranged in 3 series based on genre: I. Superhero Comics, II. Romance Comics, and III. Other Genres. Each series is arranged alphabetically based on the title of the publication.

Acquisition Information

The majority of the collection was donated by John Canfield, 2012-2015. Subsequently, items added from other sources.

Processing Information

Originally processed as a part of the Popular Culture Literature collection by Tony Dinh, 2013 and Minh Nguyen 2015 and notes by William Hardesty, 2014. Comic books were removed from the popular literature collection and made into a separate collection by Brittany Newberry 2022. Additions processed and notes added by Brittany Newberry 2022.
