Historical Note about Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (1996)
The orginal Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) was organized in 1968. In 1981, after striking, PATCO was decertified by the National Labor Relations Boards and its members fired and banned from Federal Aviation Administration positions. When the former controllers were allowed to reenter government employment, some also established a new PATCO which was certified in 1996. Subsequently, the new union, which uses the logo and branding of the original PATCO, affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
