The collection comprises one 20-page (including notes) conference paper delivered at the Southern History of Education Society meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 16, 1976. The paper concerns the formation and activities of the Atlanta Public School Teachers Association, which became American Federation of Teachers, Local 89, in 1919.

Biographical Note about Wayne J. Urban
Wayne J. Urban taught at Georgia State University for over twenty years, being named Regents Professor of Educational Policy Studies and professor of history. In 2006, he became Professor of Education and associate director of the Education Policy Center at the University of Alabama.
