Historical Note

Ron Lambe (1936-2021) grew up in Connecticut and North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and served in the Army for three years, where he worked as a chaplain's assistant. After graduating college, Lambe moved to San Francisco, where he took advantage of that city's vibrant gay life. In 1978, he returned to North Carolina and purchased, with John Jones, Rocco Patt, and Peter Kendrick, a property called Running Water (near Bakersville, N.C.). The men created an intentional community there, and Running Water became a sanctuary of the Radical Faerie movement and site of its publication, "RFD, A Country Journal for Gay Men Everywhere" (1980-1988). Lambe also became active in the environmental organization The Western Carolina Alliance. In 1987, he moved to Asheville, N.C., to pursue his enviromental work and eventually served in city government. After the group sold Running Water in 1989, Lambe was a founder of Gay Spirit Visions (GSV) with Peter Kendrick and Raven Wolfdancer. A composer and musician, Lambe also started a long-running concert series in Asheville.
