Historical Note

In 1979, Del Hamilton and Faye Allen founded 7 Stages, a professional, non-profit, 501C3 theatre company located in the heart of Little Five Points in Atlanta. Today, 7 Stages remains home to cutting edge and emerging theatre and dance companies, their mission, to create a safe haven for aspiring artists. 7 Stages collaborates with international theatrical companies, developing new plays and playwrights from around the world, such as Dah Theatre of Sarajevo, addressing the socio-political and spiritual complexities of war and conflict. Each season 7 Stages explores varying subject matter from international, social and political turmoil, contemporary health crises, the ethical implications of new technologies and group and individual identity as seen through the lens of gender, race, and religion.

The 7 Stages Theatre (Atlanta, Ga.) records give a view into the daily operations of a major local theatre. Founded by Del Hamilton and Faye Allen in 1979 in Little Five Points, Atlanta, the humble beginnings took off to showcase productions not only by famous play wrights but also emerging international and local theatrical groups. The papers consist primarily of printed materials, theatrical programs, scripts, publicity material such as press kits, posters, photographs, articles, and the administrative papers of running a small but robust theatre.
