Historical Note about the American Federation of Teachers

The American Federation of Teachers is an American labor union founded in 1916 that represents teachers, paraprofessionals and school-related personnel, local, state and federal employees, higher education faculty and staff, and nurses and other healthcare professionals. Local 1565 mostly represents teachers and employees working for the Atlanta Public Schools (APS). Mary Lou Romaine led Local 1565 throughtout the time period covered by this collection.
