Historical Note

Originally founded in Atlanta in 1888 as a trade union for railroad machinists, today the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers represents workers in a large and diverse number of fields. Over the course of the 20th century the machinists moved from representing railroad workers to machinists and others working for airlines and the aerospace industry.

International Association of Machinists, Local Lodge 1650 was chartered on May 5, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri. Its members worked in the airline industry.

Abstract

The Robert Haynes International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Collection, 1970-1996, consists of legal documents, pamphlets, periodicals, training materials, and benefits plans. Robert Haynes was a labor leader within both the IAMAW, Local Lodge 1650 and IAMAW and Air Transport District Lodge 142 with managed the workers for TWA airlines.
