Scope and Content of Series XIV: Public Relations and Newsclippings

From the Series:

The Public Relations and News Clippings series (1968-1982) contains newspaper and magazine clippings, brochures, speech transcripts, interviews, films, radio spot transcripts, stock photographs, and public relations-related correspondence. The majority of the clippings cover air traffic control in general and controllers specifically from the years 1968 to 1969 (when PATCO was founded), 1975 to 1977 (covering the air traffic controller slowdown), and 1979 to 1982 (the strike). In addition, this series has several files containing articles on the general plight of organized labor, the health effects of fatigue and stress, and aviation in general. These clippings come from both professional and popular publications.

In addition to news clippings, the Public Relations and News Clippings series also includes public relations materials for PATCO, transcripts from convention speeches and congressional testimony, and extensive stock photos. Lastly this series includes a history of PATCO, written before the strike, to provide outsiders with a clear understanding of the union’s origins and purpose.
