From the Series:

The collection consists of the records of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization from 1968-1982. The director's materials (1960-1982) include the files of Labor Management Relations, Public Relations, Research, Communications and Air Safety. The Simons files contain speeches, testimonies, news articles, reports, accident and incident reports, correspondence, memorandums, and printed materials. There are materials related to the Hatch Act, which restricts the political activity of executive branch employees of the federal government, the District of Columbia government and certain state and local agencies. Also, there are incident reports concerning air related accidents or near misses due to possible misguidance from the air traffic controllers and files related to the strike in 1981.

The committee files contain records of such committees as Safety, Training and Personnel, and Constitution. The collection also includes financial records, collective labor agreements, publications, local union records, and voting records. The records reflect the organization's efforts in improving the working conditions of air traffic controllers including wages, better pension plans, and shorter work hours.
