 Series
Identifier: I

Scope and Content of the Series

Series I (arranged roughly chronologically) includes Via's "Southern Travel Reports, 1956-1958," plus eleven folders covering Via's tenure at the University of Wisconsin School for Workers in Madison. At Wisconsin, Via was an Associate Professor, Labor Education, School for Workers from 1958 to 1966, and a Professor of Labor Education there from 1967 to 1968. This series also contains materials related to Via's work as the Field Program Director, Labor Education Division, Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois from 1952 to 1954. Correspondence from 1957-1964 relates to the labor movement. There is also correspondence with Koinonia Farm, a cooperative farm in South Georgia, and with officers of the Southern Regional Council. This series' bulk is, however, noted by Via as "correspondence," and reflects the varied posts he held from 1952 to 1977. (These are detailed in the "Via Chronology.")
