Scope and Content of the Series

Series II contains documents used by the Staff Steering Committee to examine the roles of leadership and mentorship in higher education. The records include reading materials from the American Council for Education (ACE) about creating programs for the advancement of women's leadership in higher education. It contains two subseries. Subseries A: Leadership Academy for Women, 1984-2005, is comprised of two sub-subseries. Sub-subseries 1: Administrative files, includes applications (accepted and not accepted) to the Academy, staff papers on improving the quality of work life, and the Program L.E.A.D., "Learning Early to Appreciate Diversity." Sub-subseries 2, Reference, is comprised of articles used to support the policies implemented by the Steering Committee for the Leadership Academy for Women.

Subseries B: Mentoring, 1990-2002, is also comprised of two sub-subseries. Sub-subseries 1: Administrative, includes mentorship forms, and documents PIE-AMIGOS (Arranged Mentor for Instructional Guidance and Organizational (or Other) Support,), a model for a formal mentoring program in an organization or educational setting, developed by Dr. Linda K. Stromei. Sub-subseries 2: Reference, consists of articles that support many mentoring concepts. Also included are application forms, comparative studies of mentoring among men and women, materials relating to diversity issues in mentoring and leadership, assessment scales for the Mentorship and Leadership Academy, as well as general articles concerning leadership and mentoring for women in academia, and the role of mentoring in the advancement of a woman's career.
