Scope and Content of the Records
The records, 1952-1980, of the Georgia-Tennessee-Alabama Area Joint Board of the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA-GTA) consist of correspondence, minutes, contract negotiation papers, grievance cases and printed items of the six TWUA Local unions in the area. The records concern negotiation strategies, working conditions, seniority rights, retirement benefits, representation elections, and other areas of the Labor-management relationship.
The companies involved in the records are the Aberle Hosiery Company (Columbia, TN), Holston Manufacturing Company (Knoxville, TN), Kenyon Southern, Inc. (Rossville, GA), Rainbow Processing Company (Chattanooga, TN), Ridge Textile Company (Athens, TN), Roxbury Southern Mills (Chattanooga, TN), and Venture Carpets (Calhoun, GA).
The print series is primarily contracts, but also includes some constitutions and pamphlets.
