Scope and Content of the Records
The records, 1906-1984, of the United Paperworkers International Union (UPIU) consist primarily of periodicals, proceedings, and pamphlets that describe the activities of the UPIU at the national level. Included among the periodicals are The Paper Makers Journal (1923-1948), The Paper Worker (1952, 1972-1984), and the Pulp, Sulphite, and Paper Mill Workers Journal (1936-1965). The proceedings consist of convention reports of the AFL (1930-1955), the AFL-CIO (1973-1983), Paper Mill Workers (1907, 1935-1971), the International Brotherhood of Paper Makers (1935-1957), the United Paperworkers of America (1948-1957), the United Papermakers and Paperworkers (1957-1969), and the United Paperworkers International Union (1972-1984). A small amount of manuscript material is comprised of correspondence (1967), minutes (1906-1907), printed material (1908, 1973-1984), and a literary manuscript entitled A Group of Men: 1884-1900 ©. 1948), which describes the formation of the International Brotherhood of Paper Makers.
